Global teams champion diversity in female athlete representation

SINGAPORE, 8 September 2021 – With 100 days to the inaugural Global Esports Games, esports fans are counting down to 17 December when Singapore will open its doors to the esports community for the World Finals.

Ahead of the World Finals in Singapore, top esports athletes from around the world are now in the midst of preparations for the National/ Territory Selections, before moving on to Regional Qualifier Tournaments. The three major esports titles they are competing in are Dota 2 (Valve); eFootball PES 2021 Season Update (Konami) and Street Fighter V (Capcom)

Response from the GEF Member Federations has demonstrated a particularly strong showing in terms of female athlete representation. Of the participating Member Federations, 10 countries and territories have so far put forth their female teams for the Dota 2 Women’s category.

“It is heartening to see the increasing level of diversity in the National/ Territory Selections globally. Esports is an inclusive game, with its virtual platform providing an even playing field for all kinds of athletes to compete equally,”

H.E. Ng Shin Ein, Chair of the Singapore 2021 Global Esports Games Organizing Committee.

True to its universal values of equality, fair play, diversity, inclusion and innovation, the Global Esports Games will feature multi-title esports competitions, GEFcon – the GEF’s global convention of thought leaders and idea creators, and GEFestival – the dynamic celebration of esports, youth culture, and much more. Following Singapore, the next Global Esports Games will be hosted by Istanbul in 2022, and Riyadh in 2023.
